A week of blowouts swung both ways for the Boogeymen

Silky and Erb reach milestones while Igor Orlov piles up 27 points in a week of 6s.

Last week's prediction said Igor Orlov would lead the Boogeymen in goals again and the club would keep winning the full-sized games. Both parts came true: Orlov led the club with 14 goals, and the full-sized games went 9-3.

Some weeks arrive like weather. This one arrived as a pendulum with a blade on its end, and it swung the full width of the rink three times. On Wednesday, June 3, the blade cut Weirdly Wide Hogs, 5-0. On Saturday, June 6, it came back the other way, and Frozen O Rings beat the Boogeymen 5-0. On the Sunday it swung once more, and La Ronge 9ers took the deepest cut of the week, beaten 8-1.

Credit goes first where the blade was sharpest. The rout of La Ronge 9ers belongs to Joey Flopfish, who scored 4 goals and added an assist for 5 points. That is a big game by his own measure, since his 6s average as a forward is 1.4 goals. Igor Orlov had 6 points in the same game. Silky had 5, and 4 of them were assists. Erb added 3 assists from defence, a big haul for him too.

Here is the part the old rinks will repeat. The Boogeymen scored those 8 goals on 22 shots and allowed 10 the other way. They passed at 64%, an unusually low rate. The 2nd period alone went 4-1. A team that passes that raggedly should not score that much, and yet the scoreboard kept counting as if it had lost its sense of proportion.

Wednesday's shutout was folklore of a quieter kind. Weirdly Wide Hogs put 2 shots on goal all game, an unusually low total, and Matteo Lehmann stopped both. Erb had 4 points from defence in that win, with 3 assists. For a defenceman whose 6s average is 1.5 points, that is a big game, and it was not his last mark of the week.

Saturday was where the pendulum turned on its keeper. The evening opened with a 5-4 loss. Then came Frozen O Rings, and the second loss of the evening. Frozen O Rings threw 63 hits to the Boogeymen's 13, an unusually high count against. The Boogeymen managed 12 shots, an unusually low count of their own. In net, Jonas Wagner stopped 9 of 14 for 64.3%, a meltdown by any reckoning.

What the folklore keeps, though, is what came after. The Boogeymen did not lose again that Saturday. They beat Cape Breton East 3-0 in a game that ended early. Then they beat Joetown 4-3 in overtime, with 816 seconds of attack time, an unusually high total.

Sunday carried its own bruise. Schnitzel Missiles beat the Boogeymen 4-0. Matteo Lehmann stopped 11 of 15 in that game, 73.3%, another meltdown. Next came Da Brothas, beaten 3-2 in overtime, and this time an AI goalie wore the halo. Jonas Wagner posted a 92.6% save percentage, a true steal. Torta Respecters fell 3-0 in a game that ended early. CBR fell 3-0 in another game that ended early.

Count the bones afterward and the Boogeymen scored 42 goals and allowed 22. The week also carved its marks into the wall. Silky reached 300 points this title. Erb reached 100 assists this title. The club reached its 100th win of the title on Sunday. Silky's own week was 16 points in 6 games, 11 of them assists.

But if the week needs a figure cast in iron, it is Igor Orlov. He scored 14 goals in 12 games. He added 13 assists for 27 points. He closed the week against Chicago Chupacabras with 5 points, 12 shots and 10 hits, all of them big for him. In that 6-2 win the Boogeymen out-hit an opponent for the first time in 13 games. The win was the fourth in a row. Beev scored 2 goals in the same game, after a big 3-point game of his own in the Saturday opener.

Joey Flopfish ends the week on 99 goals this title, one short of 100. A number that close to a round one hums like a held breath.

Hang a lantern on the rout of La Ronge 9ers, drape a black cloth over the Frozen O Rings game, and keep walking. A pendulum keeps no grudges. It only keeps swinging, and the trick is to be standing on the right side of the rink when it comes back.

Joey Flopfish crosses the round-number goal mark, and the Boogeymen win more full-sized games than they lose.

Father Rink is made up. The scores and stats come from the real games.
