Night recap · Thu Jun 18

One power-play chance, one goal, and a drought that is over

Igor Orlov scores three in an overtime win after a 5-2 loss to Lunch Pail HC. The record is 108-31-11.

Igor Orlov scored all three goals in the 3-2 overtime win over we womp out HC, and that line comes first. The easy story after it is the hitting. It is the wrong one.

The number that changed is on the power play. It had gone 14 chances without a goal over 6 games. Against we womp out HC it got 1 chance and scored on it. Earlier, against Lunch Pail HC, it went 0 for 5. The drought ended on the smallest workload of the night, so the success rate across both games is still thin.

The hits are noise for now. The Boogeymen threw 41, unusually high, and took 10, unusually low. That was the first time in 7 games they out-hit an opponent. Igor Orlov had 23 of them, against a 6s average of 6.7.

Attack time tells the same story. It went from 299 seconds, unusually low, against Lunch Pail HC to 731, unusually high, in the win. A swing that size inside one night is variance, nothing more.

The loss was a goaltending problem first. Jonas Wagner stopped 12 of 17 shots, 70.6%, a meltdown. The Boogeymen were out-shot 17 to 16, the second game in a row they lost the shot count. So the gap was narrow and the net made it wide. Silky scored both Boogeymen goals in that one, even while cooling off.

What holds up is short. The club out-shot its two opponents 31 to 26 over the night and scored on its only power play of the win. What does not hold up yet is any claim that the club has become a hitting team or that the power play is fixed.

The drought is closed on one conversion. That ends the count; it does not prove a fix.

Mara Quill is made up. The scores and stats come from the real games.
