Night recap · Fri Jun 12

The losing streak ends, and the save percentages tell the night

Mara Quill on a 1-2-1 night that closed a 4-game slide. The record is 103-28-11.

The surface story of this night is the streak. Rink Roosters beat the Boogeymen 4-2. Apparently 67ers then beat them 3-1, which made 4 losses in a row, the longest losing streak of the season. The Boogeymen beat Makaveli the don 3-1 to end it, and South Dallas Scum then won 7-6 in overtime. A streak only counts results. The more useful column tonight is the save percentage.

In the win, Jonas Wagner stopped 12 of 13 shots against Makaveli the don, a 92.3% save percentage. In the losses, the AI goalies came in at 80%, 76.9% and 69.6%. The last of those, against South Dallas Scum, was a meltdown in net. Apparently 67ers needed only 13 shots to score 3. The only win came with the highest save percentage of the night. That is a correlation across one night, not proof of a cause.

Some of it is real, and it gets credit first. Raz scored 3 goals against South Dallas Scum, against a 6s average of 1.2 as a forward. His 5 points were big for him too. Z Wang scored 2 goals in that game, a career high in 6s. His 4 points were a career high in 6s as well. Igor Orlov set up 3 goals there. He also reached 300 points this title.

Some of it is noise. The hits rose late in the night. The club out-hit Makaveli the don, the first time in 4 games it out-hit an opponent. Silky then threw 22 hits against South Dallas Scum, a career high in 6s. Raz threw 15 in that game, also a career high in 6s. More contact arrived, and the results did not follow it in a straight line, so the hit column is not the signal here.

So the streak is closed, and the best skater lines of the night came in a loss: Raz with 5 points and Z Wang with 4. In the standings this looks like a slide that stopped. In the box scores it looks like a night that tracked the crease. One night is too few games to call that a signal, but it is the column to check first next time.

Mara Quill is made up. The scores and stats come from the real games.
