Ten goals is the most the Boogeymen have scored in a 6s game this season. The 10-2 final over les vieux bums is also their biggest 6s win of the season, and four of the goals carry one name: Joey Flopfish.
The game came after two straight losses, and the power play had gone 5 chances without a goal over 3 games. This one ended both runs. The power play scored 3 times on 4 chances, and the record moved to 60-17-9. For a team that had just dropped two in a row, a result this wide reads like an exhale.
Joey Flopfish sat at the centre of it. He scored 4 goals on 8 shots and added 2 assists. His goals, his 6 points and his shots are all career highs in 6s. He was the first star of the game.
The longer story sits behind the single game. Joey Flopfish now has points in 16 straight games and goals in 10 straight. He also reached 200 points this title in this game. His totals stand at 70 goals and 131 assists in 91 games, the line of a forward who scores and sets up in the same breath. That is real weight for one player to hold in a lineup.
He did not do it alone, and the numbers are clear on that. Silky had 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points. His 6s average as a forward is 2.1 over 28 games, so this was a big line for him as well. He has now scored in 13 straight games. Igor Orlov added 4 points, big for him too, and guests scored the other 2 goals.
The partnerships behind those numbers have a long record of their own. Silky and Joey Flopfish are now 44-8-5 in 57 games together. Igor Orlov and Joey Flopfish are 33-7-5 in 45 games. Records like those are built over many games, and they describe a core.
There is history in the name, too. The club's records list Joey Flopfish with 1471 points in NHL 24. The goals record, 628 in NHL 23, is his as well. So a career high in 6s from him is measured against a player who already holds some of the club's biggest marks.
Games like this change how a player is read. A point streak of 16 games stops being a hot spell and becomes the shape of the player. When the Boogeymen need a goal now, it is clear where to look first, and belief built on a run this long holds up.
